Wildfires rage in Oregon & Washington

Numerous large fires are consuming the Pacific Northwest, leaving a trail of smoke and evacuation alerts. In Oregon alone more than a million acres have been destroyed through fire while Washington has lost about the same amount of land. Over 9000 residents have been ordered to evacuate from their homes in Oak Ridge with about 1250 leaving immediately.

The following are significant wildfires:

Durkee Fire: An inferno that covers nearly 295,000 acres in eastern Oregon is 80% contained.

Falls Fire: At Central Oregon over 145,000 acres have been torched while its outskirts have affected around 2,300 people who have to be moved away from uninhabitable areas.

Monkey Creek Fire: A relatively small wildfire covering a total area of about 113902 acres has consumed more than 32% at this juncture along the OR-WA border.

In Washington:

Pioneer Fire: The fire has so far burnt about 35500 acres and is only contained by 12%.

Swawilla I Fire: This one must have claimed as much as 53400 hectares and its containment at present stands at around 85%.

Retreat Fire – This inferno destroyed almost 41000 ha land before control measures go underway; currently standing at even less than half containment.
