What the Ending of ‘Trap’ Reveals About a Possible Sequel (Spoilers!)

Is he really the father of the year? Not really. M Night Shyamalan’s latest Hitchcockian thriller “Trap” features Josh Hartnett as Cooper, who appears to be a normal guy but is in reality a serial killer called “The butcher.” Things become even more complicated when he takes his teenage daughter Riley (Ariel Donoghue) to see her favorite pop-star lady raven (played by Shyamalan’s daughter Saleka), as an award for her good grades.

Unknown to Riley, Cooper tracks his latest victim through a phone app and then finds out that he is actually trapped at the concert, which was set up to catch him. During the entire show he was trying not only to look after his daughter but also avoid being seen under any circumstances.

The plot thickens as Cooper uses Lady Raven as a distraction and makes an exit with her from the venue. However, using this chance, lady raven rings up police and crowdsources help via her social networks. All plans of Cooper fall apart leading us to a great standoff during which Lady Raven is saved. In conclusion Cooper manages to escape from police custody using metal spoke from Riley’s bicycle after being poisoned by his wife (Alison Pill) and facing psychological torture from an FBI profiler (Hayley Mills) .

Though rarely featuring post-credits scenes, Trap has one that includes a comical merchant, Jamie (Jonathan Langdon) who regrets his decision to assist Cooper. When it comes to the possibility of a sequel, Shyamalan appears open to the idea, hinting that there is more to explore about Cooper’s character and other aspects of the film.
