In the state of Nebraska, a seventeen-year-old boy from Bennet is facing serious charges for allegedly derailing a train and posting the crash on YouTube. The teenager, who is an avid trainspotter, was tried at Lancaster County Juvenile Court, where prosecuting officers emphasized moving the case to adult court.

On April 21st, the boy was said to have interfered with railway parts before having a BNSF Railway coal-carrier hit off its tracks. There were damages estimated at about $350,000 sustained by two locomotives and five cars due to this accident.

Afterward, he contacted the authorities through whom it was rumored that the switch may have been turned over the wrong way but, nevertheless, was confirmed as such by the investigators due to the absence of a padlock on it. Near the accident scene, detectives discovered a camera tripod and further videos taken on his phone by him – none other than the teenager himself.

Just two days later on YouTube there appeared a video called ‘Loaded BNSF Arbor COLLIDES and DERAILS in Bennet, NE! MOST INSANE VIDEO I’VE EVER TAKEN!’ which authorities believe connects back to him. The juvenile faces two counts of criminal mischief charges as felonies for destroying or spoiling property intentionally. This publication has contacted Patrick F. Condon Lancaster County Attorney’s Office and BNSF Railway company themselves for any comments concerning this case.
