Houston, Texas—Kate Douglass zoomed her target to 200-meter women’s breastroke Olympic record, persuading herself that this would label her first time on the top podium. Trusting herself and tailoring her approach, she did that like Team USA’s third individual gold medalist Olympian swimmer at the Paris Olympics after clocking 2:19:24 seconds which was lower than one of former bests rates of 2:19:30 seconds she used to have, in other words, breaking personal best record yet again.
Douglass defeated Tatjana Schoenmaker from South Africa who won last time’s event during the Olympic games seasons under title ‘Defending champion’ with a time of 2 minutes 19 seconds as well as Tes Schouten from Netherlands (bronze medalist).
Douglass who has been to the Olympics twice previously already possesses a silver medal in the 4×100-meter relay race competition held at Paris and a bronze medal in individual medley competition conducted in Tokyo. As she got into the front right after completing her second lap during the final race of women’s breaststroke event on Monday night, Douglass increased her tempo considerably just before entering into last leg section.
At this moment though Lilly King who finished eighth saw how her compatriot was once again victorious, feeling thrilled about young American talents rising above their potential limit. Three-time Olympian King has commended Douglass’ performance and emphasized certainty regarding her future success. Until now only Katie Ledecky and Torri Huske are American swimmers who have won individual gold medals apart from Douglass within Paris region.
